The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria(FAAN) revenue has gone up by 68 per cent following the automation of its Car Park at the General Aviation Terminal(GAT) of the domestic wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos.which commenced on January 8,2018.
FAAN’s General Manager, Corporate Affairs, Mrs. Henrietta Yakubu, who disclosed recently in Lagos, said, with the automation, FAAN has succeeded in blocking some of the crevices in the authority’s financial systems which has made it possible for agency’s revenue to melt into unknown sources.
In addition, she indicated that the rowdiness and traffic build up associated with manual collection of parking fees in the area is now a thing of the past.
She also revealed that FAAN will review the performance of the automation at the end of the first three months and make adjustment, if there is need for it. She, however, expressed satisfaction with the new system.
In her words:” FAAN decided to overhaul the whole system and make it more orderly than hitherto because we were getting a lot of complaints from our passengers and airport users that they were not getting space to park their vehicles.”
“Then, we were wondering that if all the people that park their vehicles at the car park are airport workers and travellers. Also we are in the era of technology where people no longer do things manually but procedures are automated. That is what prompted FAAN into going into automation,” she explained
According to her, “since we started, there has been a lot of sanity at the Car Park, there is a lot of orderliness, progression. As soon as you go into the airport, you just go into the Car Park without any issues. In the past, there were lots of queue. Once you go into the airport, if you are not dropping passengers, you are encouraged to go into the Car Park and do your business there rather than parking on the road and create unnecessary traffic.”
Mrs. Yakubu further disclosed that FAAN would still go-ahead with the planned construction of a multi-storey Car Park within GAT similar to the one at the international wing of the airport in order to enhance revenue generation for the agency.
