The Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) has appealed to the Federal Government to come to its aid by creating special funds for the aviation parastatal to enable it carry out its statutory assignment faster.

Mr. Akin Olateru, Commissioner/Chief Executive Officer of AIB made the request while addressing news men in Lagos.He said the Agency’s budget for accident investigation for 2017 is N16million.

According to him, if this money is converted to the United States Dollar, it will be equivalent to a monthly salary of a staff in their counterpart in the United States of America.”My prayer is that government should come to our aid.”

Olateru explained that the Accident Investigation Bureau is the only agency under the Ministry of Transportation that does not generate money, added that with time its laboratory situated in Abuja may start yielding revenue.

The Commissioner is optimistic that under this administration, the financial status of the Bureau will improve tremendously going by the co-operation he has been getting within the short time he assumed duties.

He said many of the staff have not been able to go for further training that will enhance their performance due to the unhealthy financial status of AIB.Butressing his point,Engr Olateru disclosed that AIB’s is less than N2billion.
